Cuba and the medical treatment of infectious diseases

The death of Fidel Castro 25th November 2016 brought mixed reviews in the mainstream media. The Cuban leader from 1959 to 2008 was criticised for many things, but even his most severe critics acknowledged that his rule had brought two significant benefits to the Cuban people - education and health. However, what his 'health' achievements were went largely unmentioned. So what was he able to achieve in this poor country? And why was there little mention of his specific achievements?

One of his later achievements was the treatment of infectious disease in Cuba. It started in 2007 with the treatment of Leptospirosis, which is endemic in Cuba. It is associated with the hurricane and high rainfall seasons from October to December when the infection is spread via infected water. Rodent urine also carries the disease. Prior to 2007 Cuba had been importing conventional vaccines, which were expensive, and largely ineffective. Owing to a particularly virulent outbreak of leptospirosis, and unable to produce enough vaccine, the Finlay Institute in Cuba decided to try homeopathic immunisation. The result were spectacular. The statistics can be found on this Hpathy webpage. Not only was the treatment successful, it was also treatment that Cuba could afford for the entire population.

Homeopaths like myself were delighted, once this became known, many skeptics would see that homeopathy was a successful medical therapy. Of course that did not happen. Medical Journals refused to publish the study done by the Findley Institute. The mainstream media did not cover the 'good news' story. And the skeptics, who believe themselves to be scientists, continued to skeptical. One made this statement.

“Presumably then, if homeoprophylaxis for Leptospirosis was so successful and saved so many lives, the Cuban health authorities will have been boldly rolling it out all over Cuba for the last five years?”

Scientists view what is happening in the world and then seek to explain it, and benefit from the knowledge gained. And this is what happened in Cuba, where the Ministry of Health continued using homeopathy for leptospiros. Indeed, during the ensuing years it was given to the entire Cuban population (about 11 million). The results have been remarkable. As Christopher Johnson stated in the BMJ Journal on 26th November 2012, in response to the above criticism,

"In fact, this is precisely what has been done, with remarkable effect: leptospirosis is now nearly eradicated - so much so that the homeopathic prophylaxis is no longer routinely needed."

And, as Johnson pointed out, this happened within 4 years of homeopathic treatment beginning, whilst in comparison, 10 years and more of conventional vaccine treatment never brought any such success.

The result is that Cuba is now using homeopathic prophylaxis and treatment for many other infectious diseases, including dengue fever, ‘swine’ flu, hepatitis A and conjunctivitis. And they have all been equally successful.

So what now skeptics? Well, actually readers, you will not be surprised if I tell you they are not looking. They are not commenting. Remember, their dislike of homeopathy is all about their support for so-called 'scientific' medicine. What's that? It's the medicine that came up with the vaccine used in Cuba prior to 2007, expensive, and useless!

And have you heard about this story in the mainstream media? No, as usual our media is quiet. It too is not looking. It is refusing to look. Rather than discuss 'good news' about the homeopathic treatment of infectious disease it chooses to ignore it. Instead it prefers to highlight the benefits of vaccination, and conventional medicine generally.

So, if this is the first time you have heard about this, please pass it on to your friends and relations. It is, probably, the only way they will ever find out about it!

Leptospirosis. Homeopathy triumphs; but Conventional Medicine ignores!

The triumph of homeopathy over Leptospirosis might count as 'old' news now, if it had not been so ignored by governments, the Conventional Medical Establishment, and even the Medical Journals. A study published in August 2010 described the successful use of homeopathy in preventing the annual epidemic in Cuba. It helped over 2 million people, and as such is one of the largest homeopathic trials in the medical literature.

Leptospiros is a bacterial disease, one that is becoming a world-wide problem. It has caused many thousands of deaths every years. The use of homeopathy began in October 2007, and quickly proved both cheaper, and more effective, than conventional vaccines.

The outcome was spectacular. Within 2 weeks there was a 90% decrease in the incidence of the disease in the areas covered by homeopathy; no decrease was apparent in the areas covered by conventional vaccines.

This was repeated in September 2008, but this time, 2.3 million people received the homeopathic remedy. Again, in the areas receiving the remedies, disease rates were significantly below the average, with no decrease in the other areas.

"The total annual incidence of Leptospirosis was reduced in the intervention region by 84% from 2007 to 2008, while incidence rose in the non-intervention region by 21%. The researchers considered numerous variables besides homeopathy that may have influenced the trends, but all were shown to be statistically non-significant.

Yet, the (conventional) Medical Journals, whose task it is to publish medical evidence of this sort, have refused to publish this evidence. This should not be too much of a surprise (it is certainly not to the world of homeopathy). The medical journals are fully under the malign influence of the Big Pharma companies - who certainly would not want this kind of evidence to be widely known.

CLEARLY, SOME PEOPLE DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW HOW GOOD HOMEOPATHY IS!

AND WHY SHOULD THE FACTS GET IN THE WAY OF A HIGHTLY LUCRATIVE, ALTHOUGH VERY DANGEROUS, AND LARGELY USELESS, BUSINESS ENTERPRISE?

Homeopathy and Leptospirosis (Weil's Disease)

Cuba is in the midst of a giant experiment to prove not only that homeopathy works; but that homeopathic prophylaxis is also highly effective. It has involved over 11 million people, the entire population, and provides strong evidence that homeopathy has been instrumental in reducing the incidence of Leptospirosis on the island.

Leptospirosis, or Weil's disease, is an infections disease carried by rats, and passed to humans through contact with contaminated water. It is common in tropical regions, after periods of heavy rain.

In Cuba, Leptospirosis is recorded by an efficient national surveillance programme. Its incidence correlates closely with heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding. In late 2007, in response to a developing epidemic, and with only enough vaccine to treat 15,000 high-risk people, the government decided to treat the entire population of the region, over one year of age, with a homeopathic medicine. This was prepared from the inactivated causative organism by the Cuban National Vaccine Institute.

The homeopathic medicine was given to the 2.3 million population of the provinces usually worst affected. Within a few weeks the number of cases had fallen from the forecast 38 to 4 cases per 100,000 per week, significantly fewer than the historically-based forecast for those weeks of the year. The 8.8 million population of the other provinces did not receive homeopathic treatment and the incidence was as forecast. The effect appeared to be sustained: there was an 84% reduction in infection in the treated region in the following year (2008) when, for the first time, incidence did not correlate with rainfall. In the same period, incidence in the untreated region increased by 22%.

This is yet more proof of the effectiveness of homeopathy. But more can be noticed from this story.

1. Previously, a conventional vaccine was used; its effectiveness was limited.
2. The fall in the incidence of the disease was not small, it was huge.
3. Cuba could not afford to vaccinate everyone because it was so expensive; but the homeopathic remedy was affordable.

All going towards proving that homeopathy is not only effective and safe, it is affordable as well.

Homeopathy. Amazing events in Cuba

Amazing things happen when homeopathy is used to treat disease! And yet, such is the block placed on 'good' health news by mainstream media organisations, the general public never get to hear about it. Just imagine the furore if recent events in Cuba were the result of a new, miracle conventional drug!

* In Cuba, every year, 100s of 1000s contract Leptospirosis, an infectious disease transmitted mainly by rats in flooded areas. In bad cases, it can cause kidney damage, meningitis, liver failure, and respiratory disease. And each year, many Cubans die from the disease.
* Annually, ConMed vaccines cost Cuba about US$3,000,000 (a lot of money for a poor country), and this to vaccinate about 773,000 of the most 'at risk' people, who live in areas most subject to the devastation of seasonal hurricanes.
* In 2008, a homeopathic nosode, Leptospira 200c was given to about 2.4 million people, at a cost of US$200,000 - both a significant increase in coverage, and a significant decrease in cost.
* The epidemiology surveillance that followed showed a dramatic decrease in morbidity, well below the levels predicted following what had been an exceptionally bad hurricane year. And there were no deaths.

(For more details, see Homeopathy in Practice, Autumn 2009).

Given such amazing events, any rational person might have been expected to be excited, and the Media might have been expected to fall over themselves to bring us the news. Certainly any scientist worthy of the name might have been interested in looking into this further. And science journals might be expected to jump at the chance of publishing the statistics produced, and made available, by the Finlay Institute in Cuba. But no, none of this has happened.

The deafening silence that has ensued stands testiment to the power of the Big Pharma companies, their influence and control over national governments, and their control of mainstream media. The world of medical 'science', and the main scientific journals themselves, have said little or nothing. Not really a surprise, I suppose, as they were 'bought' long ago by Big Pharma money.

The fact that a simple, cheaply produced, easily administered homeopathic remedy can produce stunning results is brilliant news for our health. But it is certainly not good news for the vested interests of the ConMed world, which after all is relying increasingly on new, expensive vaccines to support its profits.
